In Austria, about nine out of 100,000 women develop cervical cancer. Regular check-ups play a decisive role, especially when it comes to the early detection of cervical and breast cancer. The sooner cancer or its preliminary stages is detected, the better the treatment options.
Cervical cancer is caused by tissue changes in the cervix. A gynaecological screening can detect those changes so that they can be removed before they might develop into cervical cancer.
Uterine tumours can occur as early as the age of 20. When women turn 40, the likelihood of developing cervical cancer increases. Cancer can go unnoticed for a long time; it usually doesn’t cause any noticeable symptoms or discomfort in the beginning. This is why regular check-ups are very important and can save lives.
