What Will Be Examined During a CT of the Head?
With the help of a CT examination, it is possible to detect and diagnose brain-related diseases and tumours.
CT Head/Brain
Whether you suffer from specific complaints or as a preventive measure due to family history, a CT of the head, which produces detailed images, provides the opportunity to evaluate changes in the millimetre range.
A computer tomography (CT) is a special X-ray examination to get cross-section images. It’s a good procedure to display organs and body structures. This cross-sectional diagnostic method offers greater clarity and more detail about internal organs, bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels than normal X-ray examinations.
The CT machine is shaped like a huge ring; you are driven through that ring. The examination lasts five to ten minutes. To produce images, X-rays in very low doses (Low Dose) are used.
In some cases, it is necessary to administer a contrast medium. This makes it easier to detect or rule out vascular diseases, tumours, and inflammations.
Before a CT scan can take place certain requirements must be met. The CT scan always must be medically justified. This is due to the use of X-rays. As with every X-ray examination, there is still a minimal chance of tumours developing despite the low radiation dose. For this reason, every CT scan is subject to strict regulations.
Complaints/Symptoms
If there have already been cases of cancer in your family, a CT scan may be wise.
Suspected life-threatening brain haemorrhage, for example after an accident.
