About 1,600 die from the consequences of the disease. Preventive cancer screenings help to reduce mortality and increase the chances of recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Mammography is a targeted X-ray examination of the breast. This X-ray procedure makes it possible to detect even the smallest, non-palpable changes or breast cancer at an early stage. A regular breast screening using mammography is currently considered the most reliable examination to detect breast cancer early on.<\/p>\n<h2>Procedure<\/h2>\n<p>During mammography, your breasts are pressed together individually between two plastic plates. This can feel a little uncomfortable, but should not hurt much. The pressure is necessary so that the most accurate images of the highest quality can be taken. The examination only takes a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Two images are taken at a time, one from the top down and one diagonally from the centre to the side. Thus, two-dimensional black and white images of the breast tissue are produced.
