Around 1,215 die as a result of the disease. Early detection can help to reduce mortality and increase the chances of recovery.  <\/p><p>Prostate cancer very rarely causes symptoms at an early stage. The causes of prostate cancer are largely unknown. However, it is known that certain risk factors influence the disease. These factors are: family history (cancer), elevated PSA level, pelvic discomfort, urinary bladder emptying disorders and generally men over the age of 40.   <\/p><p>The urological examination is currently the only medically recognized method for effective cancer prevention and early detection.<\/p><h3>PSA measurement: important information for suspected cancer<\/h3><p>The prostate-specific antigen, abbreviated PSA*, is a protein that is produced by prostate cells. It is a component of prostate secretions and serves to liquefy the semen. Small amounts of PSA also pass into the blood, so it can be detected with a laboratory test from a blood sample. To do this, the doctor takes a few milliliters of blood from the vein in the arm. Most experts give the normal value for healthy men as zero (0) to four (4) nanograms per milliliter of blood, abbreviated to ng\/ml. Prostate cancer is less likely with PSA values below four nanograms per milliliter. However, it cannot be ruled out. For values above 1 ng\/ml and below 4 ng\/ml, we recommend regular checks at longer intervals.       <\/p><p>*For a PSA measurement, sexual abstinence is recommended 3 days before the blood sample is
